I updated my portfolio with a couple projects I did over the past months for Trace Pictures.
Les Paul
November 12, 2008
I was watching the new CS4 features the other day and got bored of the Lynda tutorials so I started doing some new wallpapers. The main theme was a guitar so I started by model a very simple guitar on Cinema 4D and I used lights to cover my bad model. Then I used photoshop to texture it and finally composited on After Effects to use some of the plugins I have to get the look I wanted. On the next image you can see the original 3d model and some of the layers I used.
Process: C4D simple models, lightning & photoshop textures
Final after effects render: Wallpaper 1
Final after effects render: Wallpaper 2
Then I did a third wallpaper using illustrator to draw the guitar shapes and type and added some textures in photoshop. Below you can see some of the process and the final outcome (which makes a reference to one of my favorite band).
Process: Illustrator type and drawing, photoshop textures

Clair de Lune, Jellyfishes & Form
November 9, 2008
This weekend I got some time off from work and I spent some time playing with Trapcode’s Form plugin. I also found a good tutorial that covers the basics features.
I did this video just for fun to learn some of the functions of the plugin.
Then I wanted to do something similar using jellyfishes synced to an audio track. So I created the jellyfishes using Form, but unfortunately the render was going to take more than 12 hours, so I just took a screenshot and I’ll render it some other time. Quick note, Trapcode plugins are gonna be on sale next week, so if you’re interested, visit Red Giant website to find out more or get the trial versions of the plugins.
Behind the scenes: Stranger Than Fiction

I was looking a few days ago at different title sequences on Art Of The Title when I came across with this video. It is a detailed look at the on-screen graphics design process of one of my favorite movies.
Cooliris Update!
September 30, 2008
Just a quick update, there’s a new version of cooliris (formerly known as piclens) for safari 3.1, if you don’t know it, go ahead and install it… it’s an awesome add-on to any web browser.
Wallpapers
September 24, 2008
It’s been a very long time since I don’t post anything on my blog, but after getting a lot of pressure from Jamie Peterson I’m finally posting some wallpapers I’ve been doing. For the people who know Maxi (my dying macbook pro), I always have a different wallpaper changing every 30 minutes, I don’t know why a lot of people get impress by that… it’s a really simple feature on all macs, but the thing is that I was getting tired of having the same wallpapers all the time so I did some new wallpapers, some of them with the help of tutorials that you can find on my del.icio.us account. Feel free to download and use them!
ps. don’t forget to check out Nicolas Alexander new blog!

Book Design
April 30, 2008
This term on print class I decided to challenge the brief and design a book using Photoshop to create all the assets and InDesign to set a grid and the overall layout. The idea behind it was to make a book to help a friend of mine in Mexico raise funds to direct his first feature film. All the book is in spanish (sorry for those who don’t speak it) but you can still get an idea of the design and the use of grids. The book covers different aspects of the movie, such as synopsis, casting and characters, storyboards, visual references and compositions and art direction. You can watch the trailer of the movie at www.tiemposfelices.com.mx
DVD Authoring - Intro Movie
April 30, 2008
This short clip is an intro movie for a dvd we had to design in 6 hours for the dvd slam. The shortfilm is called REPROCESS and was made on the Film Department at VFS. I worked on this project with Tim Clayton, Vincent Van Haaff and Amber MacKay. All the images used are from the actual shortfilm and we did a fast pace edit using straight cuts and playing with a plugin called Twitch.
